Nearly all the breeds of ducks that are common today can trace their origins to the wild Mallard. Domestic ducks may have been bred prior to 500 B.C, the Romans enjoyed roasted duck. More recently they have been kept for their wonderful eggs. Duck eggs are larger and richer than chickens' eggs.
